Sales FAQ
Q: How much does the Host Company have to pay for "living expenses"?
A: According to the U.S. State Dept, there is no "minimum", but the program (as in AIESEC US) has to somehow ensure that living expenses are covered. According to Colin, the MCVP ICX (Incoming Exchange), AIESEC US hasn't set a minimum either, but the stipend should be no less than $25,000/yr. For cities like Atlanta, about $26,000-$30,000 is appropriate. This stipend value is NOT included in the Exchange Contract, but it should be included in the Training Plan. It is also the value that will go up on the AIESEC Exchange Database.
Q: Where can I find all of these forms, like the Exchange Contract and the Training Plan?
A: Callahan, who is the MC VP Account Delivery, is working on putting all of these forms up on the AIESEC US Delivery Wiki on myaiesec.net. They should be up there VERY SOON.
Q: What is the difference between the "Traineeship Program" and the "Internship Program"?
A: The US State Dept makes a distinction between a Trainee and an Intern. Trainees must have a post-secondary school degree AND at least 1 year work experience. Interns are still in college. Traineeships are probably going to be easier to sell because Trainees are more experienced than Interns, and both programs cost the same for the business.
Q: What if the Trainee/Intern is denied the Visa?
A: The Company you're trying to sell to may ask this question. If the Visa is denied, AIESEC (as in us) will try to find out what went wrong and fix it. If it doesn't work, there are still MANY qualified applicants to choose from.
Q: When does the Host Company have to pay?
A: The initial program fee (~$3,510) must be paid when the Exchange Contract is signed by the Host Company. Then, we send both to AIESEC US so that they can sign the contract as well.
Q: Do we sign the contract?
A: NO. We have the company sign the contract, and we send the contract and the payment to AIESEC US, who signs the contract. The "official sponsor" of the J1 Visa and the Exchange program is AIESEC US. Therefore, they are responsible and liable, and they sign the contract, not us.
Q: What if nobody applies for the traineeship? Does the company get its money back?
A: No, the initial program fee is not refunded. HOWEVER, this situation is HIGHLY UNLIKELY because there are always going to be trainees who want to come to America to work.
Q: How long will it take for the trainee to come here?
A: This is another question the company will probably ask. If you read the AIESEC US BD Guide and add up the time it takes to do sourcing, the j-1 visa process, etc, it will probably take 1-2 months, depending on how picky the company itself is about who they want to hire.
